RV lithium upgrade checklist
Before you buy, check six things against the makers' published specs: converter lithium mode, charge current, inverter draw against the BMS, cold-weather charging, physical fit, and alternator charging. In our data, 5 of 12 converters list no lithium mode, and 5 of 12 batteries can't charge below 0 °C and have no heater maker spec. Data updated .
The checklist
- Converter: does your converter's maker list a lithium (LiFePO4) mode, at a voltage inside the battery maker's range? Converters and lithium.
- Charge current: is every charger's output (converter, DC-DC, solar controller, inverter-charger) within the bank's published max charge current? Each battery page checks this.
- Inverter: is the inverter's full-load draw within the bank's BMS continuous rating? Inverter vs BMS.
- Cold: will the battery be charged below its maker's minimum charging temperature, and does it have a heater? Cold charging.
- Fit: do the maker's dimensions fit your box or bay? Battery box fit.
- Alternator: charging from the vehicle? Use a DC-DC charger per the maker's instructions. Alternator charging.
- Energy: does the bank last the days you need between charges? How many batteries or the planner.
What this list doesn't cover
Wiring, cable sizes, fuses, breakers and busbars, battery monitor setup, and any change to the RV's electrical system. Those follow each maker's manual and a qualified RV electrician; read safety first.
All 4 checks, with their formulas: compatibility checks.
